Dr. Prashant Doshi Appointed Inaugural Executive Director of UGA’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence The University of Georgia has appointed Dr. Prashant Doshi, professor in the School of Computing, as the first executive director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI). With over 20 years of experience in artificial intelligence research, Dr. Doshi will lead efforts to expand interdisciplinary AI programs, research, and service at UGA. UGA Classic Journal Spotlights Gen AI and IAI Student Work UGA's The Classic Journal, which showcases critical writing and research by undergraduate students, dedicates its Spring 2025 issue to Gen AI. Articles from two IAI CogSci majors Maren Misiaszek and Zoe Finelli appear in this issue. Maren's article on ethics of AI augmented decision making is selected to receive the second prize. Aaron Schecter Associate Professor, Department of Management Information Systems, Terry College of Business Aaron Schecter is an Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business. Dr. Schecter received his undergraduate and masters degrees in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from Northwestern University. Dr. Schecter’s current research focus is on how technologies change the way people make decisions, solve problems, and coordinate with others. In particular, he is interested in human-machine interaction, machine learning and AI, open source software, and social networks. Dr. Schecter’s work has been published in top outlets such as MIS Quarterly, Research Policy, and the Journal of Operations Management. His research has been supported by grants from the US Army and NASA. He has received several awards for his research and teaching, including the Hackman Dissertation award for group research, the Young Investigator award from the US Army Research Office, and a Lilly Teaching Fellowship at the University of Georgia. Hee Yun Lee Thomas P. Holland Distinguished Professor, School of Social Work Director of the Institute for Nonprofit Organizations, School of Social Work Dr. Hee Yun Lee is the Thomas P. Holland Distinguished Professor and Director of the Institute for Nonprofit Organizations at the University of Georgia School of Social Work. Her scholarship centers on digital and behavioral health innovations aimed at promoting health equity for underserved populations. Over the past two decades, she has led and collaborated on interdisciplinary teams that design, test, and implement technology-enhanced interventions—including AI-enabled and mobile tools—addressing cancer prevention, mental health, dementia caregiving, substance use, and health literacy. Her work bridges research and practice, emphasizing community-engaged, translational approaches that move evidence-based solutions into real-world settings. Dr. Lee’s research has been supported by major federal agencies such as the NIH, NSF, HRSA, CDC, SAMHSA, and the U.S. Department of Education. She has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and has been recognized among the top 2% of most-cited scientists worldwide in Public Health. Her teaching and mentorship emphasize grant writing, digital health applications in social work, and community-engaged research. Dr. Lee continues to foster cross-sector partnerships that connect social work, medicine, and public health to develop scalable, culturally responsive digital innovations that advance population health and equity. Stephen Matthew Kinane Assistant Professor, Silviculture Stephen Matthew Kinane’s expertise spans forest management, biometrics, silviculture, and remote sensing. He holds a Ph.D. (2020) and M.S. (2014) in Forestry and Natural Resources from the University of Georgia and a B.S. in Forest Management from North Carolina State University. His professional experience includes roles as an Inventory Analyst at Timberland Investment Resources (2020–2023) and a Data Analyst at ForesTech International (2014–2016). Kinane’s scholarship includes publications on estimating leaf area index in loblolly pine plantations using satellite imagery, non-parametric frameworks for fertilization response, and environmental influences on leaf area index. He teaches courses including FORS 4010/6010 (Silviculture), FORS 7630 (Intensive Forest Management), and FORS 6777 (Precision Silviculture), and is affiliated with the Plantation Management Research Cooperative and the Harley Langdale Jr. Center for Forest Business.
