The Institute for Artificial Intelligence grew out of the AI Programs established in 1987. The AI Programs became the Center for Artificial Intelligence in 1995, and it is now an Institute designed to serve as headquarters for the AB in Cognitive Science, MS in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI), and PhD in Artificial Intelligence (PhD AI) degree programs and for AI research. The Institute is housed within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and reports to the Dean of the Franklin College.
