Michael A. Covington Artificial Intelligence Center mc@uga.edu POLICY ON INDEPENDENT STUDIES An independent study is an opportunity for an excellent student to progress beyond the limits of the ordinary curriculum. Independent studies are not intended as a substitute for ordinary scheduled courses, nor as a source of easy credit for weak students. I teach two or three independent studies per year. Students wanting to take an independent study should consult me about the proposed topic. Be prepared to tell me your grades for the past two years and your complete schedule. Bear in mind that an independent study for N hours of credit implies a commitment to work on it 3N hours per week (equivalent to a conventional course with N hours of class time and 2N hours of homework).
